What temperature should I set my air conditioning at for my dog while I’m at work?

Jake asked:

I have a small beagle (16 lbs) and just moved to Dallas, TX. With summer coming soon I want to save electricity by not running my air conditioning too much, but at the same time I don’t want to harm my dog!

What temperature should I set my thermostat for my A/C at while I’m at work? I’m thinking 78 degress; is that too low/high?

thats a little high since dogs are covered with hair.

    i would go between 69* and 73*

that’s ok. i’d think of what’s comfortable for YOU is comfortable for the dog. maybe 79 would be a good compromise.

78 should be fine make sure you have plenty of water out for her as well and if you have tile that she can access she can also lay their to cool her self if she gets to warm. Good Luck

I set mine in Central Ca at 78 to 80 degrees. I keep the drapes drawn partially to keep the hot sun out.

I live in FL and I leave mine between 78 and 80. My a/c kicks on when it gets two degrees higher than the set temp.

I have a choc lab/pointer mix and a little lop ear bunny. They both seem to do fine with either setting.

78 is just fine. I have a Bulldog that can’t take heat or cold, and that’s what I set mine at.

That is where we keep ours during the day and the dogs are perfectly comfortable.
