If your air condition is in 90 degree weather for 5 hours before running with the sun beating down on it?

Hazel T asked:

is it normal for it not to get as cool as it does on a 78 degree day? Should I try to shade the outside of the air conditioner?

Also my bedroom AC runs great, nice and cold but sometimes I look at the inside of it and it is all frozen and its hardly blowing any cool air, what should I do?

Thank you in advance!

Cornell

It could be that the AC you’re using is undersized at 90 degrees but OK at 78. It also depends on how much exposure to the sun you have in that particular room. The ice build-up is probably due to low freon, or a clogged filter screen. Remove the screens (front of the unit) and clean them at least weekly. You’ll be amazed at the improvement in performance AND the lower electric bill.
