Air Conditioner Schrader Valves

How much does it cost to replace or repair a Nissan Maxima air conditioner?

I have a request by your advice. Last week, when I came back from an activity, I started my car and noticed the air conditioning system was not blowing cool air. Today I took it to a local Nissan dealer with the hopes the problem might be minimal and that I would get off with adding Freon, etc. No such luck. Here was the diagnosis (for which I had to pay $130):

“Customer states that the A/C is blowing warm air. Verified complaint. Found the A/C system empty. Tested and found the biggest leak in the evaporator. Also recommend the rec/drier and Schrader valves as well. Advise. Low pressure remained at 60 psi with the high at 170 psi. Recommend replacing the compressor also. $2550 estimated cost.

Also needs power steering system power flush. $188 estimated cost.”

So! My question to you is, can I get this done properly at a less expensive place?

Thanks,

William
It is a 1995 Maxima with only 42000 miles.

Dealerships do not have any more of a mark-up in parts as anyone else does, if your getting a Nissan part it all comes from the same place and they charge you list.
The dealer may have a little bit higher labor rate, but then again they specialize in your make of car.
Can this be done cheaper – YES – go to a smaller shop, find aftermarket or used parts.
Nissan parts are about $300 for the condensor and $321 for the evaporator then you have to add labor which should be no more than 5 hours for the pair plus recharge of refrigerant
